Our Children Are Most Special At HHUPC
Sing Unto The Lord
HAMBURGLER VISITS HHUPC
A few years ago we felt a need for at least a half hour of supervised time for our young children so their parents could spend time in the prayer room prior to Tuesday evening services. Thus Children's Bible Story Hour came about. During this time we study Bible characters, and Bible events. I have used Books, Puzzles, Visual Aids and Videos for this purpose.
We save pop tabs for Ronald McDonalds Homes. When we have several containers full, a McDonald's character comes to get them, and we share how they are used in making it possible for the parents of very ill children to stay close by the hospitals where the children are patients.
On an ongoing basis, we send cards that the children have either signed, or made for shut-ins. Recently we did this, and our Sister in the Lord was so happy she took time to send a thank you card to each child. After the 9-11 Disaster we wrote a letter to President Bush to tell him we were praying for him as our countries leader, as well for our country, and the families that had lost loved ones in this disaster. President Bush in turn sent us a letter thanking us for our prayers. Needless to say, it is framed, and holds a special place in our Library where we meet each week. When we are finished with story hour our children then go to Children's Church led by a wonderful young married couple, Ryan and Julia Clark
Recently one our young ladies that was an original "Story Hour Child" had her wedding to a wonderful Christian young man at our church officiated by our Pastor J. Hugh Rose. They are now at Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minn. This is so great as our children that attend story hour now have great roll models to look up to.
I am so proud to have had the honor and privilege to be a part of this program at Harrison Hills. At times I wonder If I am the teacher, as I have learned some wonderful things from these children. They do everything with such zeal, and their love for the Lord at such a young age is phenomenal, and watching them grow in the Lord each week is a gift.
